AUSTIN – The Carbon Neutral Coalition (CNC) today applauded the Texas House of Representatives for passing HB 4018, authored by Representatives Trent Ashby (R-Lufkin) and Ann Johnson (D-Houston), allowing the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) to deploy nature-based solutions that would generate funds for conservation efforts on state lands. By authorizing carbon sequestration technology on state lands, the bill would allow funds to be generated to support TPWD in protecting the more than 60 miles of wild Gulf Coast shoreline through a combination of fringing wetland marsh, oyster reefs and seagrass meadows.
“We applaud the Texas House for passing this bipartisan legislation allowing nature-based solutions to help generate funds to support conservation efforts here in the Lone Star State. This bill not only advances Texas’ leadership in energy innovation, but also allows the use of carbon sequestration technology to help protect our state’s living shorelines. We thank Representatives Ashby and Johnson for their leadership on this issue, and look forward to seeing bipartisan support in the Texas Senate.”
