AUSTIN – The Carbon Neutral Coalition (CNC) today released a polling memo showing strong public support among Texas voters for CNC’s objectives including Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS). Through the process of CCUS, excess CO2 is captured or removed from plant emissions and compressed into a concentrated stream. The CO2 is then ultimately utilized for value or injected into the ground to assure safe and permanent long-term storage.
“The recently conducted survey of Texas voters indicates large majority support for CCUS, carbon capture utilization and storage,” said Mike Baselice, Founder and CEO of Baselice and Associates. “Not only is there support for CCUS, but there is support for creating the financial incentives and policies Texas needs to make CCUS something more companies will do.”
- 66% of Texas voters favor CCUS, carbon capture utilization and storage, in Texas to reduce carbon emissions in the atmosphere. Only 19% oppose.
- Similarly, 65% of Texas voters favor the State of Texas creating the financial incentives and policies so that a marketplace can emerge that will encourage companies to capture, utilize and store the carbon dioxide that comes from fossil fuels and other industrial emissions.
- After respondents learned more about it, support for CCUS increases to 71% and support rises to 71% for creating the financial incentives and policies so that a marketplace can emerge that will encourage companies to capture, utilize and store carbon dioxide.
CNC Founder Corbin Robertson, Jr. stated, “The Texas energy industry is under intense pressure from Washington and Wall Street. We are pleased that Texans want to create the framework necessary to preserve our oil & gas industry. CCUS is key to our energy future.”
The poll, conducted by Baselice and Associates, was conducted from August 28 to September 1, 2022, among 1,001 Texas voters. Below are key findings from the poll. The margin of error to the results of the 1,001 interviews is + 3.1 at the .95 confidence interval. A mixed methodology was employed with half of the respondents interviewed by phone and half via the internet.
